A Cowboy & Indian are DJ / producers Jay Glover and Adil Magik.
After a chance meeting through the Acid Jazz label they shared (Jay was with seminal hammond funk combo The James Taylor Quartet, and Adil was one half of Goldbug, which had a British top 3 top hit with a cover and mash-up of Led Zeppelins ‘Whole Lotta Love’), they started out dj’ing and producing music for fashion shows between London, Milan and New York - mixing and mashing everything from rock to hip-hop, vintage funk to psychedelia, electro to nu-disco and breakbeat.
It is these eclectic influences, and their sense of musical mischief and high drama that is the template for the sound of ‘A Cowboy And Indian’.
Since the release of their debut remix of Kula Shaker's ‘Narayana’, they've worked with Belgian based Freaksville Records remixing and mixing songs for Jacques Duvall and Coralie Clement ('Comme Par Désenchantement'), Mademoiselle 19 ('Je Dance Dans Le Noir'), electro rockers Deadride Phantom ('Phantom is Alive'), Benjamin Schoos & Laetitia Sadier ('Je Ne Vois Que Vous') and Ex with Michel Moers - ex lead singer of cult electro pioneers Telex.
2013 saw the release of the album ’Kinshasa Mantra' by Belgian based Congalese band Le Dragon Noir, which was co-written and produced by A Cowboy & Indian. More recently they have written music for 'The ABC's of Death' and 'Fashionista' by director Simon Rumley.
Between 2013 and 2017 they hosted monthly shows on Belgiums indie Radio Rectangle and K2K Kilburn To Kensal Radio.
Adil Magik has many years of experience as a dj and party organiser behind him. Known for his swashbuckling eclectic dj style, mixing and mashing up genres from Rock and Indie to House and Electro, Nu-Disco to HipHop, R&B and nuggets of Funk & Soul - always with the dance floor firmly in mind.
Starting out in the early 90s, Adil was responsible for setting up influential club / live music nights Magick, Mink and Phonoteque, as well as becoming resident dj at premier London bars Browns, Café de Paris, The Aquarium Club, The Saint and Princes’ short lived club “Grand Slam” @ the Astoria. In recent years Adil was the resident dj, promoter and booker of dj’s / bands at celebrity haunt The Met Bar Park Lane.
Currently Adil is behind the guerilla style ‘Miss You x’ parties. These invite only events have included a ‘fashion sound clash’ between John Richmond, PPQ and Pam Hogg, and actor and comedian Paul Kaye’s (aka Dennis Pennis) alter ego The Mike Strutter Group.
Notably Adil was one half of dance rock duo Goldbug that had a UK top 3 hit in 1996 with “Whole Lotta Love” a cover version of the Led Zeppelin anthem and one of the earliest examples of a pop ‘mash-up’ that fused Pearl and Dean’s classic cinema ad theme.
Jay has worked with acts as diverse as Groove Armada, the Brand New Heavies,Tony Christie & Grandmaster Flash! He has just finished writing and producing a new album for Right Said Fred.
As an artist he has albums out as ‘The Super-Phonics’ and ‘The Sound Stylistics’ (whose album ‘Play Deep Funk’ was No.1 in the Jazz charts in Japan for a while) on Freestyle Records.
He is a prolific composer with music in several major films (Heartbreakers, Three And Out, Fire In Babylon, Damsels In Distress & Bride Wars), tv themes (The Paul O’Grady Show CH4, The 5 O’Clock Show ITV, The Floor Show BBC2, Record Of The Year ITV and Greatest Hits Live ITV), and advertising (Mercedes Benz, Panasonic, T-Mobile, Adidas, Sony, Smirnoff & Volkswagon).
